fluid structures, dynamic systems: on dissolving dogma
from the Temple of Heresy.
Enter the Temple to receive my offerings of sacred profanity: intimate writings from the inner sanctums of my heart. Here I embody the Trickster Heretic, sharing honest thoughts, grappling with messy ideas, and offering in-process musings that don't fit neatly into *any* dogma of ideology. The Temple of Heresy is open to other curious seekers and ideological nomads. As a gesture of trust and reciprocity, monetary exchange is required to cross the threshold.
But first: a few important updates!
I am currently transitioning toward making Substack my primary mode of public communication—rather than Instagram. I will still be on IG but I will be there much less, so if you like hearing from me, please subscribe!
NEW BONUS FOR PAID SUBSCRIBERS: I recently got attuned to Reiki Level Two and am moving through the course materials and working on official certification with my amazing Reiki teacher, Fay Johnstone. I’m starting a Reiki Journal Altar and I am inviting all paid subscribers to be included. If you’re a paid subscriber who’s interested, reply to this email with your name and your healing intention. Your healing intention can be literally anything, but here are some ideas: a personal goal you’re working toward, a challenging emotional situation, patterns and habits you want to shift, physical health challenges, healing affirmations—just to name a few. I will add you to my Reiki Journal Altar and will be sitting with the book once a week to send Reiki to everyone inside. If this calls to you & you’re not yet a paid subscriber, upgrade your membership here!
I have just a few spots left for readings in December—including 2024 Year Ahead readings! Paid subscribers: scroll to the bottom of this email for your special discount codes for readings. Book your reading here.
Have you listened to The Glitch Witch podcast yet? I am investing a LOT more energy over there as well and have so much planned for 2024! Last week I started a new series in which I’m unraveling the story of my witchy becoming. The first installment—titled “My Story Begins with a Lightning Bolt”—is now live and a new episode (that I’m really nervi-cited about!) is coming this week.
We are now entering the Temple of Heresy.
Fluid Structures, Dynamic Systems:
On Dissolving Dogma
At the beginning of this Chariot Year 2023 (2+0+2+3 = 7; 7 = The Chariot) I wrote in my planner:
"Fluid Structure (Saturn in Pisces). Look to the structures in nature: they give support, they ground, provide containers, allow for movement, expansion, and growth, they're flexible, they dissolve when no longer needed—or when something else is needed. Becoming too attached to rigid structures is our "downfall" as humans—it never leads to anything sustainable. Be curious about the structures I adhere to this year—allow them to be flexible and not rigid. I'm not holding on to anything too tightly. Allow for dissolution and transformation."
On The Tower, The Chariot's teacher card (The Tower = 16; 1+6 = 7, = The Chariot), I wrote:
"This is an extension of that process really. The Tower will be wise support in identifying what's no longer working, what's become constricting, confining, what's become a prison. It can be gentle if I approach this energy with awareness but it WILL assist with dissolution and dissolving, it WILL help to burn away what no longer serves. The Tower frees us from all that isn't truly fluid and supportive. The Tower shows us where things have become rigid, dogmatic, archaic. The Tower also makes it so these structures CANNOT stand—we must surrender to the crumbling so we aren't buried in the rubble. Surrender to this energy because on the other side of fear is freedom."
On February 12, 2023, under a Scorpio waning gibbous moon, I wrote after pulling the Ace of Swords:
"What's coming to me as I look at these cards is the liberating sensation of the Divine as jokester, as trickster. Shifting from the idea/belief of a shaming, punitive god to the idea/belief of a god realm that doesn't give a fuck what you 'do'. There is no punishment here, no right/wrong, no should/shouldn't, no good/bad. These binaries don't exist in the god-space. Also—think of the planets as gods who literally just want to help. And how wonderful it is that I "wandered" from the punitive ideals of Christianity to this more fluid, shifting, strange, silly, absurd, audacious landscape—wow. 'Forgiven', indeed. 'Forgive them, for they know not what they do.' In general. I don't think that line was about Jesus on the cross. But symbolically, metaphorically—we are all putting people on crosses, crucifying, in many ways. It's because we've forgotten who we really are."
Collectively, we are unlearning our obsession with rigid, binaristic systems and structures.
I grew up in a rigid religious environment that expected moral purity from me—only to escape, again and again, into more of the same.
