For most Oracles (ahem, leaders of Future-Earth are Oracles, btw), their rejection initiation begins very young.

Childhood, perhaps — definitely teenage years.

And it’s really not about “rejection” at all: at its core, it’s an initiation into leadership.

My initiation came as a huge shock to my system.

I was a sweet, daydreamy kid. The oldest child of five — AND the oldest daughter.

And up until 14, I played that role (and all the expectations that came along with it) perfectly.

Sweetly. Earnestly. Open-heartedly.

It’s not so much that I stopped doing that at 14. I just…became curious.

About life. Religion. Music. Fashion. The world. Independence. Boys.

My curiosity was innocent, but it was not treated as such.

I didn’t stop being sweet and obedient so much as honestly begin exploring other facets of myself.

I wasn’t trying to “rebel”. I was just being myself (or: more of myself was beginning to open and blossom.)

But as that happened, I began to be called rebellious. And when I was given that label, I started to BE more rebellious.

I’m not sure which came first — chicken or egg.

More labels rolled in.

Lisa the Rebel. Lisa the black sheep. Lisa the misfit. Lisa the sinner. Lisa the stubborn. Lisa the impulsive. Lisa the contrarian. Lisa the fighter. Lisa the immoral. Lisa the disobedient. Lisa the lost. Lisa the prodigal. Lisa the fallen.

I was cast out of the circle of love and acceptance. I was branded a reject and a cautionary tale…

“This is what happens when you don’t obey!”

The good, the wholesome, the sweet, the motherly, the responsible, the respectful.

All lost in the tide and turbulence of initiation.

I was fallen from grace.

What I didn’t know…

My destiny was already unfolding.

No — I was not “destined” to be the black sheep. I was not destined to be a reject. I was not destined to be the outcast.

I am destined to lead.

You self-censor.
You consider all others’ emotions before your own.
You experience deep bouts of insecurity.

You shrink around “louder” voices.
You’re afraid to take up too much space.
You avoid conflict.
You have a history of fawning & people pleasing.
You are terrified of being disliked.
You find being misunderstood excruciating.
You add 50+ disclaimers to everything you say so no one could possibly misinterpret.
