Deck: IRIS Oracle by Mary Elizabeth Evans at Spirit Speak
Part of the reason you are afraid to wish (really, truly, wholeheartedly, excitedly, hopefully, earnestly, honestly wish) is because you are afraid your wishes won’t come true.
Part of the reason for that is the world we live in, yes.
So much pain. So much inequity. So much stifled potential. So much unrealized brilliance. So many extenuating circumstances. So much heartbreak. So much struggle. So much trauma.
All of these are real and have a very real impact on the fulfillment of (and your ability to fulfill) your wildest dreams.
But you are also afraid because you are afraid to fail at your part in realizing your wishes.
Your part.
Yes.
You are afraid of writing a book that will be rejected.
Afraid of painting a piece that will never see a gallery.
Afraid of launching a product or service no one will want.
Afraid of writing a song no one will listen to.
You are afraid to wish because you are afraid you can’t rise to meet your wishes.
You are afraid to wish because you are afraid you won’t measure up to the BIGNESS of your wishes.
You are afraid to wish because you don’t want to put in the time that wish will require.
You are afraid to wish because you don’t have proof you’ll be successful.
You are afraid to wish because you aren’t sure you’ll be any good.
You are afraid to wish because you aren’t actually sure you are talented.
You are afraid to wish because wishing means showing up.
And my friends, you are VERY afraid to show up because you are afraid of what you will find when you do.
TL;DR: you’re afraid you’ll find out you don’t actually
have what it takes to rise to meet your wildest dreams.
The great tragedy of this is that when you don’t show up at all, you don’t even give yourself the chance.
And then your lost and forgotten wishes become a self-fulfilled prophecy.
Because your wishes won’t (can’t) come true if you don’t ever take steps in their direction.
Wishes ARE magic but they require action.
Your action.
And you are afraid to act.
It’s not an accusation, just the truth.
Most of us are so afraid.
Because wistful longing is easy.
Wistful longing while simultaneously accepting that your dreams will “probably pass you by” is actually easy.
It may hurt, it may not FEEL good, but it’s easy.
Showing up to your dreams is harder. (Though it CAN be more easeful, which I have talked about elsewhere and will continue to talk about.)
Because here’s a secret: wishing also requires action.
It takes a willingness to be messy. It takes a willingness to try. It takes a willingness to have no idea what you’re doing. It takes a willingness to be a beginner. It takes a willingness to be an amateur. It takes a willingness to be rejected.
Showing up to your dreams and wishes is an act of bravery.
And your dreams simply won’t come true if you don’t show up.
They can’t.
I don’t say this to scare you further but simply to say:
Your dreams are dreaming you. Your wishes are wishing you.
And they are moving toward you, always.
But they need you to move toward them.
They need you to face your fears of failure and rejection and unworthiness.
(Each of these are illusions by the way; they are trickster magic.)
“Failure” is simply a natural result of showing up and trying.
“Rejection” is the wild, spiralic way your work finds its truest expression.
“Unworthiness” is simply non-existent—you ARE worthy, simply by being.
A story acceptance won’t confirm your worthiness. External validation won’t confirm your worthiness.
“Confirming your worthiness” is something only YOU can do—simply by choosing to KNOW IT.
So.
What are you more afraid of?
The pain of
trying and failing (and trying again and failing again)?
Or the pain of
never trying at all?
You are the only one who can answer that question.
Until next time.
Stay weird,
Lisa

Not me tearing up at your post today because this is exactly what I’m struggling with. I feel like the spiral iv journey I’ve been on has taken me round and round so many times, I keep thinking I’ve left that pestering little voice in my behind, but I haven’t. Thank you for this space, friend ❤️ I needed this today.
I needed this today. The fear that they will not come true (and sometimes the fear that they will). The worthy/unworthiness is vibrating deep inside. Thank you for posting this. 💜
