you are already here. (plus: announcing 'lightning bolt: a creative activation'!)
Deck: Visions in the Liminal Space
The push and pull of creative striving.
What a ride, you know?
Our creative impulses pull us ~seemingly~ forward: a moth to a flame, an almost magnetic attraction.
I don’t know about you but I’ve felt this ~magnetic~ force my entire life. I can’t remember a time in my life when holding a book in my hands didn’t make me feel all sparkly inside. I recognize it now as an electric buzz of aliveness.
It was never enough just to read a book. Of course, I did read—I inhaled books as a kid and then all throughout my early adolescence.
But as pleasurable as it was, I can’t remember what it felt like to read without a simultaneous longing: I want to do this too.
If you’re here, I suspect you know what I mean. Not about books maybe, but about something.
You have felt a call on your life, an instinctive longing that draws you ever-forward.
But here’s where things get weird: there’s no “there” there. We never arrive. We never “make it.”
This is only a problem if we make it one, and most of us do to some degree or another, because our instinctual calling has become enmeshed and entangled with the false longing of extractive capitalism: a feeling of “not there yet”, a feeling of “not ever enough”, a feeling of “not talented enough”, a feeling of “never chosen” … and on and on it goes.
We have set out in search of a treasure we will never find.
I don’t say this to encourage you; I say it to liberate you.
You are already here.
Every moment you spend making the thing is another moment you’ve made it. Literally.
The treasure you seek isn’t some elusive and slippery and ever-shifting destination, way out forward into the future.
The call on your heart? That magnetic pulse of longing?
That is the treasure.
You are in a dance with the wild experience of being alive.
You are the sacred made flesh and blood.
You are a god in human form.
You are a creative being, simply by breathing.
I don’t say any of this to discourage you from making any external goals or to eschew your material longings: we are material beings in a material world, after all.
(Hi Madonna)
Rather:
Pause and feel the magnetic pull of your longing.
Savor the pleasure of creative expression.
Delight in the mystery of the wild adventure.
You don’t need external validation or someone to affirm what you already are:
A creator.
A creative.
An artist.
⚡️ANNOUNCING LIGHTNING BOLT: A CREATIVE ACTIVATION⚡️
Your ideas are like electric currents.
You have ideas constantly—perhaps while lying in bed as you drift to sleep, maybe while driving, walking, or taking a shower. You feel these ideas like a charge of electricity, but you struggle to harness them.
Raw ideas are like a pulse of electricity: you can’t touch them and they might even feel a bit dangerous.
But electricity can be harnessed.
This experiential workshop will activate you as a conduit to channel your creative ideas.
This creative activation will help you channel your wild impulses, so they’re conducted—like electricity harnessed into tangible form.
Ideal for those who:
⚡️Have had an idea for a while but haven’t been able to get started
⚡️Feel like they have many ideas but don’t know how to choose
⚡️Feel inspired a lot but struggle to channel that inspiration into action
